Our 38-acre manufacturing site in Arlington specializes in the production of high-quality utility poles and is located 15 miles north of Everett. The local plant team is made up of 25 dedicated manufacturing professionals across a variety of positions, from entry-level to more advanced roles. Position Overview:

The Plant Manager at Stella-Jones in Arlington is responsible for managing daily plant operation functions in a safe manner to ensure production schedules and requirements are achieved on a quality, timely and cost-effective basis. This leader ensures compliance with government regulations pertaining to environmental controls, hazardous waste management and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drives a positive safety culture by setting a good example and by continually improving effectiveness of safety training and programs
  • Develops and maintains manufacturing operation business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle and production costs.
  • Maintains operation properly manned with a qualified, competent workforce
  • Establishes production and quality control standards, develops budget and cost controls, and obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Ensures all established costs, quality, safety and delivery commitments are met.
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions for the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Reviews production costs and product quality; modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Assures maintenance programs are carried out and production interruption is minimized through consistent preventative maintenance follow up. Recommends system improvements and plans for upgrading productivity.
  • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government and customer policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Directs preparation of accounting records.
  • Participates in annual budgeting process. Responsible for operating and capital budget development and attainment.
  • Visits related company facilities to maintain a current knowledge of methods and costs typical of the industry’s best/worst companies. Attends meetings, trade shows, seminars, etc. to maintain current knowledge of best practices applicable to the management of manufacturing operations.
  • Management duties include supervision of exempt and/or non-exempt staff. This includes but is not limited to, conducting performance evaluations and improvement plans, approving paid time-off (PTO), assigning or delegating work, providing on-the-job training, giving guidance to staff, taking disciplinary action, and interviewing candidates for open positions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of work experience in the manufacturing industry required
  • Three or more years of manufacturing plant leadership experience (in roles such as Plant Manager, Production Manager, Production Supervisor) required ; Five or more years preferred
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing or a similar industrial manufacturing environment preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and practical experience of lean manufacturing methods
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and environmental policies and procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP (or other ERP systems)
